This Week's Market – Wednesday, October 14, 2026
This week, USD/JPY is expected to hold firm on the downside, with a slightly stronger dollar and weaker yen bias. Rising long-term US yields on fiscal concerns should continue to support the dollar, while fading expectations of further Fed rate hikes are likely to cap the upside.
All eyes are on the US Consumer Price Index (CPI): a reading above expectations could strengthen dollar buying. Higher oil prices driven by escalating tensions in the Middle East could also lend support to the dollar, but traders should remain alert to risk-off yen buying.
In Japan, attention will turn to remarks by Bank of Japan Governor Ueda on the 16th. With the Japan and US monetary policy meetings approaching at the end of the month, choppy price action is likely to persist for the time being.
Technically, the pair continues to trade within a range. We will be watching closely to see whether the 157.50 support level holds.
