This Week's Market — Tuesday, September 15, 2026
USD/JPY saw dollar buying after WTI crude oil futures briefly surged into the high $104-per-barrel range, and the 10-year Treasury yield — the benchmark for US long-term interest rates — briefly touched around 5.0121%, its highest level since January 2023. However, once the pair pushed slightly above resistance, it lost momentum and turned lower. Today, the focus will be on whether the 154 level holds as support.
This week is central bank week, with the FOMC, the Bank of England, and the Bank of Japan all meeting in succession. The key question for the FOMC is whether it will deliver the 0.25% rate hike that is increasingly becoming the market consensus, or hold rates steady again — and if it holds, whether the dollar will fall, given that the market has already been pricing in a hike. For the Bank of Japan, we'll be watching the size of any rate hike, as well as Governor Ueda's comments at the press conference regarding the future pace of the rate-hike cycle.
